Match Score Guide

How the Match Score is calculated.

A plain-language explanation of what the Match Score measures, how it is worked out, and how to read it.

What the Match Score is

The Match Score is a percentage that estimates how closely a teacher's profile fits a job post. Teachers see it next to recommended jobs. Schools see it next to each applicant, and can click the percentage to see how each factor contributed.

It is a guide, not a verdict. It compares information in the profile with the job post. It does not measure teaching quality, and schools make all hiring decisions.

How the score is worked out

The profile and the job are compared on eight factors. Some matter more than others, as shown below.

FactorImportanceWhat is compared
SubjectHighYour subjects compared with the subject(s) of the job. A match on any one subject counts as a full match.
Native English speaker requirementHighCounted when the job post asks for a native English speaker: your nationality is compared with what the school states. If the post does not ask for it, this factor does not count against anyone.
LocationMediumSee the location rules below.
TEFL / TESOL certificateMediumCounted when the job post asks for one. If the post does not ask for it, this factor does not count against anyone.
Grade levelMediumYour preferred grade levels compared with the level the job is for (kindergarten, primary, lower secondary, upper secondary).
SalaryMediumYour expected salary range compared with the salary range of the job. Counts in your favour if the ranges overlap, and is not held against you if either side has not stated a salary.
Teaching experienceMediumYour experience compared with the minimum the job asks for. If the post states no requirement, this factor does not count against anyone.
Start dateLowerThe month you are available from compared with the month the job starts. Being available on or before the start month scores best.

Location

Some job posts require applicants to be in Thailand already. This is not part of the score, so always read the post.

Why a teacher may not see a percentage

A score is shown only after the profile has a location, a nationality and the subjects taught. Until then you will see a prompt to complete your profile instead.
